How do these systems work? What is their significance? And what is the way forward?

Cooperative Systems on the Road

The SAFESPOT and the CVIS integrated project are organising in Helmond, the Netherlands a common Demonstration Event for cooperative systems technology. The event is organised by the Helmond local authority, Peek Traffic, TNO and Logica organise on the 12th, 13th, 14th and 24th of May 2009 at the castle in Helmond.

Through the live demonstrations the participants can experience how cooperative systems contribute to safer, smoother and cleaner traffic. In four days cooperative systems will be demonstrated to a wide audience on public roads in Helmond.

The live demonstrations will reveal the technology of cooperative systems and a variety of new services and applications, like:

  • An intelligent intersection
  • Lane change assistance
  • Dynamic speed and route advice

This European approach is distinct from other local and private initiatives in the way it integrates today's systems and uses existing and future European standards.

The program includes:

  • Tuesday 12 May, 2009 - Closed meeting for invitees and press.
  • Wednesday 13 May, 2009 - Experts from the traffic and transport domain, representatives of local governments, ministries and other (European) governmental organisations and graduate students of Technical Universities.
  • Thursday 14 May, 2009 - Education.
  • Sunday 24 May, 2009 - Public day organised by the city of Helmond.

We hereby invite you to attend this event and familiarise yourself with Cooperative Systems and experience how vehicles communicate with each other and their surroundings. We will also answer questions like: "What is the significance of cooperative systems to road users?" and "What is the current situation?"
